Mylar Balloons and power lines don’t mix!

Saturday February 15th, 2020 9:19pm- There was another significant power quality (PQ) voltage sag despite summer-like weather conditions in the Bay Area. The grid voltage sagged to 68% of normal for 3.48 cycles, around 1/20th of a second.

Customer reports reflect the impact of the sag in power quality on sensitive loads and equipment. This recent incident originated within the City of Santa Clara (SVP) territory. Authorities found that mylar balloons in their 60 kV transmission lines were the root cause of the voltage sag.
